He is also an Editor and Reviewer of several international Peer-Reviewed Journals including Aquaculture Research Journal, Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems and Aquatic Foods, Journal of World Aquaculture Society, People and Nature, Journal of the World Aquaculture Society, Aquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, among others. He has served as a Joint Secretary to the National Aquaculture Development Working Group and has vast knowledge on fish nutrition and has headed several National taskforces including the Economic Stimulus Program (ESP) Feed component aimed at promoting aquaculture growth through quality and affordable fish feeds in the country.

He has attended several specialized professional training courses and gained extensive leadership and project management experience by completing Strategic Leadership Development Program (SLDP), Senior Management Course (Kenya School of Government) and Post-Graduate Diploma in Intensive Aquaculture production (Hebrew University of Jerusalem). He has also participated in advanced fish Nutrition and feed formulation studies in the East African region. The professional training has significantly strengthened his research versatility and administrative capability. He has also significantly contributed to fisheries, aquatic resource management and aquaculture landscape in Kenya and beyond.

He is a facilitator in the Fisheries and Aquaculture Module in the International MSc. Program in Limnology & Wetland Ecosystems offered by Egerton University (Kenya) and University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences (Austria) under the support of UNESCO-IHE DELFT. Dr Munguti has successfully supervised 5 PhD students and 21 MSc students from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Austria and the Netherlands. He served as a taskforce member of the Kenya Agriculture Sector Transformation & Development Strategy (ASTDS). He is member of National Technical Advisory Committee (NTAC) for National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Project (NARIGP) and a member of Research Grants Management Committee (RGMC), in the World bank Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Project (KCSAP). He sits in Kenya Marine & Fisheries Research institute (KMFRI) Scientific and Technical Management Committee which guides research agenda for the organization.

Research Interests: Dr Munguti research explores aquatic Nutrition, Fish health, with a focus on fish feed formulation, cost effective feeds, processing and production, the use of probiotics. I have conducted multi-institutional, interdisciplinary and fish health research leading to successful feed formulation feeding regimes, feed storage. He is also involved in developing, validating and upscaling climate smart aquaculture technologies, innovations and management practices (TIMPs) to significantly contribute to food and nutrition security.
