KMFRI BOM Member Prof. Francis Kimani Njonge


Prof. Francis Kimani Njonge BVM, MSc, PhD, was appointed Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI) Board of Management member with effect from 3rd May, 2022. The highly seasoned don is also the Dean School of Natural Resources and Animal Sciences (SONRAS), and Associate Professor Department of Animal Sciences, at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

Prof Njonge holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Parasitology from JKUAT, a Master’s degree in reproductive physiology from James Cook University – Australia, and a Bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Nairobi. He has authored and co-authored numerous publications in peer refereed journals, and is a registered and retained as a veterinary surgeon by the Kenya Veterinary Board with an experience spanning over 30 years.

On leadership, mentorship and community service, Prof Njonge has contributed immensely as a council member of Mount Kenya University (MKU) and Chairman of the Academic and Research committee. Besides participating in the Young Scientist of Kenya competition as a judge, and he has mentored many young people in both scientific and non-scientific projects initiated by youth. Prof Njonge’s outstanding performance in various roles has also earned him numerous awards and recognition.
