Jared Nyabeta
Jared is a Research Scientist who has served Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute for the last 25 years under Aquaculture directorate and based at Sangoro Aquaculture Station. Between the years 1997 -2012, he served as the head of Technical team at Kegati Aquaculture Centre before being transferred to KMFRI Mombasa where he served as a fish seed production and hatchery management expert.
Jared was also appointed as an ornamental aquaria manager at KMFRI Mombasa where he served to his transfer to Sangoro in the year 2021. He has a lot of experience in fish culture structural -establishment, fry production and hatchery management on cultured fin fish species in Kenya. More emphasis has been research on tilapia, African catfish and ornamental species in growth performance and species diversification. He was contracted by Bamburi Cement as a lead team to conduct some work on commercialization of Haller Park Fish Farm for fish quality, enhanced production and generation of income. Jared has also been working on assessment of male production of Nile tilapia and marine tilapia through exposure to temperature variations as an alternative technology for monosex production.
Other areas of interest include; selective breeding for Nile tilapia, ornamental diversification through inter- family breeding and African catfish and broodstock management for quality seed production. Have actively participated in community empowerment on aquaculture practices in the Coastal region and Coastal fresh water systems spearheading fish hatchery trainings, fish culture husbandry and participated in regional and local seminars, workshops, conferences and open days. Jared has actively participated in Various projects among them; BOMOSA and KCDP. He is a co-author to three publications and contributed in two book chapters. He has served as a board member for Emeroka secondary school and as a chairman in Emeroka secondary education section.
