Kenya Aquatica is the Scientific Journal of the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KMFRI). The Aim of the Journal is to provide an avenue for researchers from KMFRI, its partner institutions and others to disseminate knowledge generated from research conducted in the aquatic environment of Kenya, the adjacent areas and resources therein. The generated knowledge is in line with KMFRI’s mandate to undertake and propagate research in marine and freshwater fisheries, aquaculture, environmental and ecological studies, and marine research including chemical and physical oceanography. 

Kenya Aquatica is published semi-annually. It is an open access journal available free online at, visit the website for detailed information on the current edition of the Journal and the manuscripts submission process on back pages. 

Manuscripts may be submitted electronically to the Chief Editor through This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. They should   not exceed 20 pages in length, double-spaced and follow the American Psychological Association (APA) documentation style. Manuscripts should be submitted as Word documents. Tables, charts, graphs and photos (.jpg or .gif) should be submitted as separate file with clear legends numbered in Roman numeral.

The editors reserve the right to modify manuscripts to fit length and language considerations. Kenya Aquatica Journal requires that manuscripts should not have been published elsewhere.  

Each manuscript will receive a blind review by at least two members of the Editorial Review Board, unless the content or length makes it inappropriate for the Journal. The Review Board will make decision and communicate to authors within four to six weeks of receiving manuscripts.
